Well, now I talked with both my parents about the fact that I'm newly on ADHD meds.
Dad: A little shocked; listened and agreed with my reasoning
Mom: Commiseration about "shutdowns" and symptoms, peppered with enquiries to ensure medication was my choice, for me; reassured by my awareness & journaling

These reactions are what I expected from each, and a good primer for why I have the relationship I do with my parents. They were mostly positive exchanges; they also mirrored every other time I discovered something about myself.
Dad: "Wait, really?"
Mom: "Are you sure this is what you want to do? Will this make you who you want to be?"
Always disbelief & a burden of proof. Always hesitancy. Always a need to bring them around to being happy for me.
Looks fine. Smells funny. Avoid.
