I had a good moment just now.

I started a complex, multi-step process. Got through a few steps. Looked at starting the next.

Said to myself, "I'm not ready to do this right now."

That's important. I expect a lot of us can get where we're determined to push through to the end, even if we KNOW there's not enough fuel in the tank to get us there.

This was a case where there's literally no penalty for stopping. Nothing is going to be hurt by sitting on a desk for an hour, a day, even a week.


Sometimes, you just have to set a thing down and come back when you're better prepared. Sometimes "better prepared" isn't even THAT better off, but it's more ready and capable than the first time.

Give yourself permission to set something aside if you know you aren't bringing your best efforts.
